About Hoof Beats

The first issue of Hoof Beats was published in March of 1933.  Since that inaugural issue, Hoof Beats has gone on to become the world’s most widely read harness racing magazine.  Hoof Beats is published each month by the United States Trotting Association, the governing body of harness racing in the US and the Standardbred breed registry.  Each exciting issue of Hoof Beats features full color images, in–depth features, columns and stories covering all aspects of the Standardbred industry.  In fact, our award winning coverage has made Hoof Beats the industry’s premier publication.  Fans and industry insiders alike know they can count on Hoof Beats for the best in harness racing.

Each year the American Horse Publications hands out its Editorial and Graphic Awards for the best articles, photographs and advertisements.  Hoof Beats consistently brings home several of these awards each year.  At the most recent awards ceremony, Hoof Beats won four first-place honors.  These awards were for the best Editorial Design (circulation 5,000 – 25,000), Event Coverage Editorial Content, Publication Staff Color Editorial Photograph and Personality Profile (circulation 5,000 – 25,000).  At this same ceremony, Hoof Beats received an honorable mention in the category of “General Excellence (circulation under 15,000).”
